The Poor Souls Window The intertwined letters IHS is a monogram of Christ and are the first three letters in the Greek word for Jesus. Above the letters are the fish and loaf symbol, representing the feeding of the five thousand as told in the Gospels. Mary is depicted as giving the scapular to mankind and offering assistance to the poor souls in purgatory as she holds her child Jesus, their Savior. This is the only window with an English inscription: “In memory of John Braitsch.” This gentleman belonged to the parish from its earliest days and owned a prosperous shoe store on East Douglas.
